Strolling along on warm, white sand with salty sea air gently brushing your hair. Water so still and clean that the color of the white sand is reflected up through the depths to intermingle with the ocean's natural blue and green resulting in an inspiring aqua. Walking out on a pier you realize that even though the water is 75 ft deep you can still clearly see a shell lying on the bottom of the ocean floor. Night settles in and the full moon's reflection reveals schools of tiny fish lapping the edge of the tide. Smells of the clean ocean mixes with the fragrant smells of nearby magnolia and wild rosemary. Aaahhhh---- Florida.
The above description of Florida aptly describes St. Andrews State Recreation Area. This paradise is over
1063 acres of sand dunes, edged by woodlands on one side and the ocean by another. Overnight camping
is permitted as is picnicking, swimming, fishing and boating. A boat ramp and two fishing piers are
available. There are even showers so that you can rinse off after a cool swim on a hot afternoon. The
nature trail allows views of many different species of birds and even alligators. Bring your fishing poles,
camera, swim suits and loved ones (not necessarily in that order) and experience Florida at its finest.
Located only 3 miles east of Panama City Beach on the gulf tip.
The campground facilities include good paved roads, 176 tent sites (dirt), most of them shades, 10 pull throughs (20x50), back-ins (20x40), with restrooms and showers, dump stations, public phones, security, laundry, RV supplies and groceries, and playgrounds. The park has a 14 day maximum stay.
Be sure to visit Shell Island. Tickets can be purchased at the park office. Boats leave every hour for this unspoiled island.
