Shell Island, which is part of St. Andrews State Recreation Area,, is accessible only by boat. This natural island of windswept dunes is worth a daily excursion if you're interested in swimming, sunbathing and just generally "getting away from it all." Shuttle boats leave every hour to take you to this unspoiled island. While you are on Shell Island be sure to treasure hunt on Spanish Shanty Point. Legend has it that pirates horded their treasure there.
