Unless exempted, each hunter on this wildlife management area must have the following in his possession and display them upon request of any Commission employee.
1. Hunting license; A Florida hunting license may be purchased from offices of county tax collectors or their subagents.
2. Wildlife Management Area Stamp; This $25.00 stamp may be purchased for county tax collectors or their subagents.
3. Quota Hunt Permits; A no-cost regular quota hunt permit is required to hunt from November 24 through 27 and December 10 through 18 of the general gun hunt. There are 450 regular quota hunt permits available for the still hunt area, and 1,000 regular quota hunt permits available for the dog hunt area. Regular quota hunt applications are available from county tax collector or their subagents on or about June 1. To apply for a permit, obtain a regular quota hunt permit application and follow the printed instructions. Permits will be issued by a random drawing for applications received June 1 through 13. Any unissued permits remaining after the random drawing will be issued on a first-come basis as applications are received form a postal delivery service.
4. Archery Stamp--This $5.00 stamp may be purchased from county tax collectors or their subagents.
5. Muzzleloading Gun Stamp. This $5.00 stamp may be purchased from county tax collectors or their subagents
6. Wild Turkey Stamp. This $5.00 stamp may be purchased from county tax collectors or their subagents.
7. State Waterfowl Stamp. . This $3.00 stamp may be purchased from county tax collectors or their subagents
8. Federal Duck Stamp. This $15.00 stamp is available at post offices.
9. Trapping Permits. This free permit is required when trapping during the season. The permits are available on a first-come basis at the regional office in Panama City.
2. Wild hog--Daily limit 1, possession limit 2.
3. Turkey--Daily limit 1, season limit 2, possession limit 2.
4. Gray Squirrel, quail and rabbit--Daily limit 12, possession limit 24. for each game species.
5. Raccoon, opossum, coyote, skunk, beaver, armadillo and nutria--No bag limit.
6. Bobcat, mink and otter, Possession limit 1 unless in possession of a furbearer license.
1. Driving a metal object into any tree or hunting from a tree into which a metal object has been driven is prohibited.
2. Constructing or erecting a permanent or semi-permanent structure is prohibited.
3. It is unlawful to set fire to any forest, grass or woodlands or for any individual or group of individuals to build a warming fire or campfire and leave same unextinguished (Chapter 590, Florida Statutes).
4. Wild hogs may not be transported alive.
5. It is unlawful for any person to leave any garbage or refuse or in any way litter in the management area.
6. The or willful waste of wildlife is prohibited.
7. Non-migratory game may be hunted from one-half hour before sunrise until one-half hour after sunset. During spring turkey season, shooting hours are one-half before sunrise until 1:00 p.m.
8. The head and evidence of sex may not be removed from the carcass of any deer on the area. Portions of the carcass may be removed immediately prior to eating.
9. No person shall release any wildlife on this wildlife management area.
10. It is illegal to hunt over bait or place any bait or other food for wildlife on the wildlife area.
11. Killing swimming deer is prohibited.
12. Killing fox is prohibited.
13. Taking fox squirrel is prohibited.
14. Hunting, trapping or the possession of dogs is prohibited in areas posted as "CLOSED."
15. Public access is prohibited in areas posted as "RESTRICTED", for protection of threatened or endangered species or environmentally sensitive areas.
16. Any person hunting deer or accompanying another person hunting deer shall wear at least 500 square inched of daylight fluorescent orange material above the waistline as an outer garment. This is not required when hunting during an archery-only season.
17. No person shall cut or destroy any tree on or remove any tree, shrub or protected plant (as listed in F.S. 581.185) from any wildlife management area without within permission from the landowner or primary land manager.
18. Deer and turkey may be dismembered in the field or camp, but each portion shall have a tag affixed to it identifying the name, address and hunting license number of the person who killed it; the date and location at which it was taken; and shall be readily traceable to the portion of the animal bearing the sex identification.
20. For taking non-migratory game, only shotgun, rifles, pistols, longbows (including compound and recurved bows), crossbows (during the general gun hunt only) or birds of prey may be used.
21. For hunting deer, muzzleloading guns firing a single bullet must be at least .40 caliber, those firing two or more balls must be 20 gauge or larger.
22. Hunting deer with full jacketed bullets or any rimfire cartridge is prohibited.
23. Fully automated firearms, silencer-equipped firearms, centerfire semi-automatic rifles having a magazine capable of holding more shots than five rounds, explosive or drug-injected devices, or setguns are prohibited.
24. Guns are allowed only during periods in which their use for hunting is allowed.
25. No person shall have a gun in manual possession while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
26. Children under the age of 16 may not be in the possession of a firearm unless in the presence of a supervising adult.
27. Hunting turkeys with dogs in prohibited.
28. Hunting or taking hogs by the use of dogs is prohibited.
29. Guns or dogs are prohibited on areas posted as "CLOSED".
30. No person shall allow any dog to pursue or molest wildlife during any period in which hunting with dogs is prohibited.
31. No person shall possess any dog during any period in which the taking of wildlife by the use of dogs is prohibited, except that dogs not normally used for hunting and kept under restraint may be possessed.
32. Hunting with dogs other than bird dogs is prohibited south of the Intracoastal Waterway, east of Kelly Street, west of S.R. 79 and north of S.R. 30-A; all lands south of Highway 20, north of S.R. 388, east of S.R. 79 and west of S.R. 77; all lands south of U.S. Highway 98; and all lands west of S.R. 395 and all lands north of Pine Log Road, west of Otter Creek Road and north of Otter Creek.
33. Bird dogs may be trained throughout the year except during the spring turkey season.
34, Hunting wildlife or the display or use of a gun in a manner capable of taking wildlife on or from the rights-of-way of state /Routes77,79,388, county Routes 2300 (Steam Plant Road), county Route 2296, Land Fill Road, U.S. Highway 98 or the paved portion of Steel Field Road is prohibited.
36. Vehicles shall not be parked in such a manner as to obstruct roads, gates or firelanes.
37. The use of all-terrain vehicles is prohibited.
38. Persons operating vehicles in the still hunt area in Walton County shall enter and exit at designated entrances only.
39. No motor vehicle shall be operated on any part of the wildlife management area designated and posted as "CLOSED" because of inclement weather, poor road conditions, construction, management activities or wildlife surveys.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements -- Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp, archery stamp and wild turkey stamp (if hunting turkeys).
Legal to Take--Any deer (except for spotted fawn), wild hogs with a shoulder height of 15 inches or more, turkeys or either sex, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, opossum, raccoon, beaver, coyote, armadillo, skunk, nutria and migratory game birds in season.
Regulations Unique to the Archery Hunt -- In addition to these regulations, all General Wildlife Management Area Regulations shall apply.
1. The possession of firearms or crossbows is prohibited.
2. Hunting deer, hogs or turkeys with dogs is prohibited.
3. Centerfire shotguns are permitted on the area for hunting migratory game birds when one or more of those species are legal to take.
Permit Stamp and License Requirements -- Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp and muzzle- loading gun stamp.
Legal to Take -- Deer with one or more antlers at least five inches in length visible above the hairline, wild hogs with a shoulder height of 15 inches or more, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, opossum, raccoon, beaver, coyote, armadillo, skunk, nutria and migratory game birds in season.
Regulations Unique to the Muzzleloading gun Hunt -- In addition to these regulations, all General Wildlife Management Area Regulations shall apply.
1. Only muzzleloading guns are allowed.
2. Hunting deer or wild hogs with dogs is prohibited.
3. Centerfire shotguns are permitted on the area for hunting migratory game birds when one or more of those species are legal to take.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements -- Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp, state and federal stamps (if hunting ducks).
Legal to Take-- Gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, opossum, raccoon, beaver, coyote, skunk, armadillo, nutria and migratory game birds in season. Bobcat, mink and otter may be taken December 1 through March 1.
Regulations Unique to the Small Game Hunt--All General Wildlife Management Area Regulations shall apply and the possession of centerfire rifles is prohibited.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements -- Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp and regular quota hunt permit(if hunting before December 19). State and federal waterfowl stamps (if hunting ducks).
Legal to Take--Deer with one or more antlers at least five inches in length visible above the hairline, wild hogs with a shoulder height of 15 inches or more, squirrel, quail, rabbit, opossum, raccoon, beaver, coyote, armadillo, skunk, nutria and migratory game birds in season. Bobcat, mink and otter may be taken after November 30.
Regulations Unique to the General Gun Hunt--All General Management Area Regulations shall apply and dogs may be used for hunting except in the still hunt area.
Permit , Stamp and License Requirements--Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp, archery stamp (when using bow and arrow) or muzzleloading gun stamp (when using a muzzleloading gun).
Legal to Take--Deer with one or more antlers at least five inches in length visible above the hairline, wild hogs with a shoulder height of 15 inches or more, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, opossum, raccoon, beaver, coyote, armadillo, skunk, nutria, bobcat, mink, otter and migratory game birds in season.
Regulations Unique to the Archery/Muzzleloading Gun Hunt--In addition to these regulations, all General Wildlife management Area Regulations shall apple
1. Only bows or muzzleloading guns are permitted.
2. Hunting deer or wild hogs with dogs is prohibited.
Permit, Stamp and License--Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp and wild turkey stamp.
Legal to Take--Bearded turkeys or gobblers.
Regulations Unique to the Spring Turkey Hunt: All General Wildlife Management Area Regulations shall apply.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements--Hunting license and wildlife management area stamp, and regular quota hunt permit (if hunting during general gun season before December 19),
Legal to Take--Raccoons and opossums.
Regulations Unique to the Fox, Raccoon, Opossum and Bobcat Hunt--In addition to these regulations all General Wildlife Management Area Regulations shall apply.
1. During the period November 12 through March 5, raccoon or opossum may be taken by the aid of a light and dogs, with .22 rimfire firearms other than .22 magnum or with a single shot .410 shotgun using shot no larger than No.6 provided that no firearms shall be loaded at any time except immediately prior to shooting a treed or bayed raccoon or opossum. The hunting of raccoon or opossum under the provisions of this paragraph by display or use of a light from a moving vehicle, boat or animal is prohibited.
2. Hunting with dogs other than bird dogs is prohibited in the still hunt area.
3. Fox, raccoon, opossum, and bobcat may be pursued by dogs.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements--Hunting license, furbearer license, wildlife management area stamp and a trapping permit.
Legal to Take--Raccoon, opossum, beaver, coyote, armadillo, skunk, nutria, bobcat, mink and otter.
Regulations Unique to Trapping--All General Wildlife Management Area Regulations and regulations in the Guidelines for the taking of furbearing animals in Florida shall apply and furbearers may be taken with guns, live traps or snares only.
Permit, Stamp and License Requirements--Hunting license, wildlife management area stamp, State and Federal Stamp (if hunting ducks). Quota hunt permit (if hunting during the quota period of the general gun season).
Regulations Unique to Migratory Game Birds--In addition to these regulations, all wildlife management area regulations apply.
1. Only shotguns may be used during the rail and moorhen and early duck season, and the first phase of the dove season.
2. The use of lead shot for taking ducks and coots is prohibited.
