Facilities

There are 87.5 square miles in the district and 846 acres of school properties worth approximately $310 million and owned by the local taxpayers. There are 60 campuses--including 40 elementaries, ten junior highs, four high schools, four special, and two alternative campuses.

Strong community support has been the key to LISD’s outstanding facilities. All classrooms are air conditioned, all elementary schools have physical education facilities, four elementary schools have new additions, and new athletic facilities for most secondary school campuses have been completed. The recent opening of a new junior high with its technology magnet program gives the district one of the most advanced schools in the state. Recently completed is the air conditioning and renovation of a former junior high campus to create a community learning center to house a new alternative high school program and adult education. Additionally, there is an aggressive, continuing asbestos abatement program along with other efforts in improving and maintaining the quality of the district’s facilities.
