ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

*Iles Elementary Creative and Expressive Arts Magnet
Features open education philosophy, team teaching, heavy reliance on parent conferences, individual instruction, and non-graded. Extended day program util 5:30 p.m. available at no expense to parents.

Classes offered: gifted and talented, Spanish, art, orchestra, piano, choir, gymnastics, dance, and full-day kindergarten.

*Ramirez Elementary Math and Science Magnet
Features Early Literacy Project in the primary Grades (K-2), traditional grading, science lab. Relies heavily on parent conferences. Every classroom is equipped for use of computers.Classes offered: gifted and talented, orchestra, Spanish, math, science, and full-day kindergarten.

*Tubbs Elementary Communications Magnet
Features team teaching, traditional grading, computer assisted instruction and extended instructional day until 3:45 p.m.

Classes offered: gifted and talented, music, art, physical education, math, and full-day kindergarten.

Accepts non-minority students.

*Wheatley Elementary Math and Science / Authentic Learning Magnet
Features an enriched curriculum with emphasis on authentic and site-based learning as well as cooperative learning, traditional grading, science lab, math lab, and computer assisted instruction. Extended day program until 5:30 p.m. Available at no expense to parents.Classes offered: gifted and talented, music, art, physical education, reading with a whole language approach, and full-day kindergarten. Help One Student To Succeed (HOSTS) mentor program available to students.

*Williams Elementary Authentic Learning Magnet
Features integrated thematic instruction with coopertive learning. Primary grades have developmentally appropriate instruction. Skills taught in life-relevent situations. Reading instruction is literature based.

Classes offered: gifted and talented, Spanish, computer instruction, and full-day kindergarten.

*Wilson Elementary Learning Styles magnet
Features team teaching, traditional grading, and extended instructional day until 3:45 p.m.Classes offered: gifted and talented, art, music, physical education, Spanish, special education, and full-day kindergarten. Fine arts are emphasized.

JUNIOR HIGHS

*Cavazos Junior High High Tech Magnet
Honors classes are available, and every classroom is equipped for computer use. Interactive Video Distance Learning Classroom is available.

Classes offered: media literacy and critical viewing, piano lab and electronic media. Latin, French, and Spanish are available.

Accepts non-minority students.

*Dunbar Junior High Science Academy
Accepts students interested in honors courses and those with special interests in science. Interactive Video Distance Learning Classroom is available.

Classes offered: science block, biology I, journalism, and speech. Unique schedule includes selected classes that are blocked for 90 minutes, meeting every other day. French and Spanish are available.

Accepts non-minority students.

*Hutchinson Junior High Honors Magnet
Students must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or 14 points on an entrance matrix. Must have A’s and B’s in specific honors courses requested as well as specific performance on standardized tests.

Honors Classes: language arts, social studies, math and science.

Additional courses available: theater arts, gymnastics, dance, competitive diving and swimming. Latin, French, and Spanish are available.

Accepts minority students.

*Irons Junior High Transitional Academic Achievement Program
For over-age students. Students may complete three years of junior high in two years.

Classes offered: intensive training in language arts, reading and mathematics.

Accepts minority and non-minority students.

*O.L. Slaton Junior High Honors Magnet
Students must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or 14 points on an entrance matrix. Must have A’s and B’s in specific honors courses requested as well as specific performance on standardized tests.

Honors Classes: language arts, social studies, math and science.

Additional classes available; theater arts, gymnastics, dance, competitive diving and swimming, and classical art. Latin, French, and Spanish are available.

Accepts non-minority students.

HIGH SCHOOLS

*Estacado High School Medical Professions Magnet
Admission requires special interest in medical professions and good performance on standardized tests. The Tech Prop initiative with South Plains College is one option. Students can receive dual credit.

Classes offered: Advanced placement, honors courses (with acceptance), health care science, health occupations lab (preceptorship), physiology and anatomy, medical illustrations, medical administrative systems, medical Spanish, medical Latin, and sports medicine. Army Junior ROTC is also available.

*Lubbock High School Lubbock Exemplary Academic Program (LEAP) Magnet
To qualify for LEAP honor classes, students must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or 14 points on an entrance matrix. Must have A’s or B’s in specific LEAP honor courses requested as well as specific performance on standardized tests. Junior or senior students that meet specified criteria may enroll at Texas Tech for dual credit.

Classes offered: LEAP honors courses, enriched art, gymnastics, dance, enriched sciences, and advanced placement courses. Navy Junior ROTC also available. Four-day academic week with fifth-day special classes including engineering and legal training classes.
