Call for Volunteers

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS)

The Lubbock Independent School District welcomes the involvement for parents and community members as partners in the education of our youth. Volunteers serve in a variety of capacities including helping teachers in the classroom; assisting the clinic, library, or workroom; participating in career days; and preparing identification cards for high school students. During the 1994-95 school over 1,000 parent volunteers donated in excess if 123,000 hours of volunteer service (which when calculated at minimum wage represents over $523,500)

Adopt-A-School Program

Business and community representatives donate time, resources, and expertise throughout the Adopt-A-School program. This activity currently involves over 200 businesses and civic organnizations. These leaders provide incentives for students in the areas of attendance, academic achievement, and citizenship; serve as positive role models for our youth; and share resources to enable our young people to understand better the expectations of the business world.

Groups or individuals who are interested in becoming volunteers or joining the Adopt-A-School program are cordially invited to contact Marcie Johnston in the Public Information Department at 766-1066.
