THE LUBBOCK ISD PROMISE

for

Lubbock Graduates

The Lubbock Independent School District

The LISD Promise is an expression of confidence in our graduates in vocational education an offer of cooperation with employers of Lubbock Independent School District graduates.

To our Graduates, The LISD Promise says we are proud of them. It also says that we are confident in their preparation for the future.

To the Employers, The LISD Promise says the graduates of the Lubbock Schools will be assets to their professions. Employers can hire our graduates with confidence, because LISD stands behind them.

Lubbock Schools work hard to prepare our graduates - so hard, in fact, that we offer this guarantee to employers.

Conditions of the Promise:

If, for the first two years after graduation, a vocational education student - having met state and local requirements in mastering basic academic skills and who graduated from the Lubbock Independent School District - is found by an employer to have a loss of skills in basic vocational areas, the district shall provide supervisory support and remediation assistance in an effort to help the graduate achieve a satisfactory level of performance.

The assistance shall be provided free of cost in all situations verified as warrantable to the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education. This service may include additional training in evening classes, day school classes, tutoring, or individually designed programs.

The Procedures:

If an LISD vocational education graduate, covered by the LISD promise, is judged to be lacking in basic vocational skills - as perceived by the graduate or the employer, either may enact the LISD Promise.

Either the graduate or the employer should contact the Lubbock Schools to speak with the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education. The Assistant Superintendent shall visit with the employer and the gradute as soon as possible to determine whether the situation is warrantable.

The major example of unwarrantable situations includes having the graduate assigned tasks outside his mastery level at the time of graduation. Even in these instances, the Assistant Superintendent shall offer suggestions for remediating the area(s) of need.

While the two-year limited skills mastery warranty is in effect, assistance shall begin in a manner agreeable to the graduate, to the employer, and to the district. The result of this process is expected to be a remediation of skills which leads to rehiring by the employer.

The district does not expect that any employer or graduate will enact The LISD Promise; but if needed, the district will work with the employer and the graduate in whatever areas are deemed appropriate.
