HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 1994-95 TENTH & ELEVENTH GRADERS

The requirements to receive a high school diploma and to participate in graduation exercises are as follows:

    1. One must have earned all 22 credits for the regular transcript or all 23 credits for the advanced transcript.
    2. One must have passed the exit level TAAS tests or been exempted as a result of an ARD decision.
All students receive the same type of diploma. The academic achievement record (transcript) is marked according to individual accomplishments and courses completed. All units for graduation shall be earned in Grades 9-12, with the exception of Algebra I in Grade 8 and Foreign Languages taken in Grades 7/8. Only one credit may be earned from local credit courses on any transcript. However, all grades on the transcript will be counted in computing the grade point average.

The fourth unit of English may be satisfied by English IV, Speech Communication, Business Communication, Debate, Journalism, or concurrent enrollment in a college English course (at Lubbock High only).
Mathematics - any three units taken in correct sequence3
Of the 22 units required for high school graduation, three units of mathematics must be completed. The units may be selected from any state-approved mathematics course. If Algebra I has been satisfactorily completed in grade 8, the student will be given three credits.
Science - two units2

World History Studies or World Geography Studies - one unit1

Economics, with emphasis on the free enterprise system and its benefits - one-half unit1/2

Students may substitute the following physical activities for the one and one-half required units of physical education: marching band and cheerleading during the fall semester; Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC); athletics, dance I-IV; and two or three

ADVANCED HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM - ADVANCED TRANSCRIPT (23 CREDITS)

Students who wish to complete an advanced high school program and to have such accomplishment recognized and distinguished on the academic achievement record (transcript) shall complete requirements in addition to those prescribed in the regular program.

Advanced high school program - 23 credits
Advanced high school honors program - 23 credits

    Five units of credit must be designated as honors courses.

The required units shall include:

Of the 23 units required for graduation under the advanced high school program, students must complete Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. If Algebra has been satisfactorily completed in grade 8, the student will be given one credit toward high school

Foreign Languages - two units from the same language2
If a student takes a foreign language in grades 7 and 8 and successfully completes the course, the student will receive one credit toward graduation and will need one additional year of the same language to satisfy the advanced transcript requirement.
