RESOURCE

Program Description: The Resource program is intended to serve moderately and/or severely disabled students in any of the categories which meet TEA eligibility. The resource student can be served in a variety of instructional arrangements: in the student's regular classroom, in the resource classroom, and/or in a combination of settings. The ARD committee may recommend an instructional setting that is specifically designed to meet the needs of the student in the least restrictive learning environment. On the elementary level students are served in their mainstream classroom with special education support. The primary objective of this program is to provide instructional support correlated with the goals and objectives of regular classes. Special education teachers and regular program teacher maintain communication to provide the basis for the individualized educational program.

CONTENT MASTERY

Program Description: The Content Mastery program serves students with special needs as recommended by the ARD committee. Most of the students receiving services in this instructional arrangement will be learning disabled. The program is designed to provide instruction effectively in the content areas to identified students in the regular classroom. Educational goals and objectives are maintained by special education and regular education teacher.

ESSENTIAL LEARNING SYSTEMS

Program Description: The Essential Learning Systems program is designed to serve students with any of the disabling conditions as recommended by the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee. The majority of the students receiving services will be learning disabled. This individualized program has a multi-sensory approach using computers and a variety of materials to remedy reading skill deficits. Instruction is self-paced, non-competitive, and ungraded. It is offered for a forty-five minute period daily. Each ELS lab is staffed by a certified special education teacher and a teaching assistant.

LANGUAGE RETRAINING

Program Description: The Language Retraining program is a multi-sensory sound/symbol approach designed to assist the student who is having difficulty in reading, spelling, and handwriting. It is designed for the student who has an average or above IQ and who is not reading in accordance with his ability. The student will relearn all sound/symbol relationships in a very methodical and sequential manner. The program is designed to take two to four years to complete. It is staffed by a certified special education teacher who has received extensive training.

Program Goals: All of the above described programs have a common goal which is to provide instructional assistance to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment so that they may be successful.
