HEALTH (1 - 6)

Program Description: The health program has three major goals which are repeated at each grade level in an age approprate sequence. These are (1) concepts and skills that better an individuals' personal health and safety. (2) health-related concepts and skills that involve interaction between individuals, and (3) health-related concepts and skills that affect the well-being of people collectively. Specific studies include self concept building, dental care, vision and hearing, daily health schedules, food choices, drug abuse, body systems, diseases, emergency treatment, first aid and AIDS/HIV instruction (provided for grades five and six only).

Program Goal: The overall goal of the health program is to develop within students a knowledge and understanding of their bodies and how to preserve good health.

Time:

    Grades one - two, weekly or five lessons each six weeks
    Grades three - six, 45 minutes weekly or five 45 minute lessons each six weeks

Staffing: Health is taught by the science teacher.
