CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

Career Investigation (One Semester Only)
An activity-oriented instructional guidance course designed to prepare all students to have a greater knowledge and understanding of educational and career opportunities and options, and to assist them in making meaningful and informed educational and career choices. Students will study the 15 occupational clusters and a variety of careers within each cluster and related to individual self-appraisal, including interest, abilities, values, and aptitude. Students will develop a four-year educational and career plan. Not available if taken in seventh grade. (16000300)

Home Economics Production, Management, and Services
This course meets two periods. It is designed for employment training in the areas that are inclusive of the composition of the home economics discipline. Students will receive employment training and skills in childcare and guidance; food production, management and services; housing, home furnishings, equipment management production and services; apparel and textiles production, management and services; hospitality services such as those of hotel and motel operation and institutional maintenance. Industrial Technology II
Students participate in activities related to manufacturing such as product research, design, marketing, financial resources, mass-production, automated systems, basic materials, standards and processes. In construction technology, students develop concepts and skills in the design and construction of structures like model house and bridges. Students explore the electrical, plumbing, trimming, finishing masonry and remodeling techniques and systems. Principles of conservation, recycling and using computers in planning, production, quality control and management are incorporated. (11601101)

Keyboarding (One Semester or One Year)
This course provides the student the opportunity to master the techniques of correct position of body and hands, spatial arrangement of the keyboard, striking keys with the correct fingers, operation of various machine parts, speed and accuracy in keyboarding, copy-arrangement skills, communication skills, problem typing skills, and electronic information processes. This course is recommended before taking Microcomputer Applications in Grades 9-12 if the student does not have keyboarding skills. (3703200)

Life Management Skills (One Semester Only)
This course is designed to provide students an opportunity to acquire knowledge about themselves. The content lends to clarifying students' own aptitudes, values and beliefs through self-reflection and critical examination of past and present influences on their own development. Content emphasizes management skills (including responsibility for decisions/choices), problem-solving, personal health including nutrition, and factors involved in responsible parenting. (11610136)

Metal Trades
This course meets two periods. It is a pre-employment laboratory course designed for students who have expressed an interest in metal work training. The purpose of the program is to prepare students with employment skills which are transferable; to provide successful educational experiences; and to prepare students for entry into other career programs. The primary emphasis is on machine shop and welding skills. Includes entrepreneurship, safety, leadership and career opportunities. Open to students in all junior highs. (Taught at Evans) (12621500)

Small Engine Repair
This course meets two periods. It is a pre-employment laboratory course designed for students who have expressed an interest in small engine repair training. The purpose of the program is to prepare students with employment skills which are transferable; to provide successful educational experiences; and to prepare students for entry into other career programs, includes repair and service cooling systems, air cleaner, fuel systems, lubricating system, repairing starters and ignition systems, overhauled engines, entrepreneurship, safety, leadership and career opportunities.
