English 8 Honors
Additional demands, beyond the standard essential elements required in English 8, prepares students for successive honors English courses in which credit for high school graduation is granted. Emphasis is on mastery of skills in language and grammar, literature and reading, composition, spelling handwriting. Taught at Cavazos and Dunbar. (3223100)

English 8 Pre-AP
The second year of the Pre-Advanced Placement program, English 8 Pre-AP, is designed for the college-bound student with above-average command of composition, reading, and grammar skills. Special Attention is given to the careful reading of various literary works with emphasis placed on oral and written analysis and interpretation. Writing instruction includes attention to developing and organizing ideas and a study of the elements of style. Vocabulary study and outside reading are stressed. Prerequisites: a high grade point average, TAAS mastery, parent approval, and teacher recommendation. Taught at Hutchinson and O.L. Slaton. (3223100)

Reading Improvement 8
Opportunities will be provided in decoding the written language, developing vocabulary to understand written materials, increasing comprehension skills, and applying reading skills to a variety of practical situations. Required for all students who have not passed the reading portion of the seventh grade TAAS. (3273500)
