MUSIC

Band
No requirements, with approval from director. Provides initial band training to include scales, rhythms, intonation and chorale drills, proper phrasings, and general music pedagogy. Preparation for the eighth grade band level where UIL participation will begin. Initial work with rhythm sheets, method books, and basic music selections are utilized. This organization is available to students at all LISD junior high schools. (3154100)

Choir
The seventh grade program teaches students the proper vocal techniques, understanding of reading and sight-reading of music, and allows for several performances. a student enrolling in seventh grade choir will participate in concerts and contests. They will also be eligible to try out for all-city and regional choirs. (3154300)

Orchestra
Past membership in sixth grade LISD orchestra program is preferred as a prerequisite to LISD seventh grade orchestra or other equivalent string class. Membership to said organization is by approval of director. Provides initial orchestral training to include proper bowing techniques, knowledge of selected scales, rhythms, and general orchestra techniques. This is a performance organization and is available at all LISD junior high schools. (3154200)

Piano Lab
No prerequisites, with approval of director. Basic piano instruction for students with little or no keyboard skills. An electronics laboratory, consisting of a teacher's console and twelve student pianos, is utilized. Student pianos are equipped with headphones and an intercommunications system, thus facilitating both individual and group instruction and performance. The latest in electronics equipment is being utilized at this music piano synthesizer lab. (Cavazos) (3154500)
