This is an accelerated opportunity to expand upon the regularly scheduled content of English 7. Substitutes for English 7. Taught at nonmagnet schools. (3223000)

English 7 Honors
Honors courses offer more flexibility, greater acceleration of subject matter and better provision for independent study while including additional curriculum demands to the essential elements required in English 7. Taught at Cavazos and Dunbar in lieu of English 7. (3223000)

English 7 Pre-AP
The introductory course of the Advanced Placement sequence, English 7 Pre-AP, is designed for the college-bound student with an above-average command of reading, composition, and grammar skills. English 7 Pre-AP, is a rigorous course that acquaints students with skills for success in A-P English and provides them with a strong background in literary analysis, process writing, and vocabulary development. Prerequisites: high grade point average, TAAS mastery, parent approval and teacher recommendation. Taught at Hutchinson and O.L. Slaton in lieu of English 7. (3223000)

Reading 7/Reading Improvement 7
Opportunities will be provided in decoding the written language, developing vocabulary to understand written materials, increasing comprehension skills, and applying reading skills to a variety of practical situations. Optional for students in English 7 Honors at Cavazos, Dunbar, Hutchinson, and O.L. Slaton. Reading Improvement 7 is required for all students who have not passed the reading portion of the sixth grade TAAS. (Reading 7 - 3273200; Reading Improvement 7 - 3273400)
