CAPITAL CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

The Women's Protective Services (WPS) and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) are very similar, and yet different organizations. They are both about helping people reach a higher plain, about helping women, children and families reach their highest potential. The WPS is impacting its clients at a base level, helping them survive a life- threatening environment; a daily intervention of wrongs perpetrated on the innocent. The YWCA helps its clients by modeling what is right in life. The YWCA programs bring families closer together, help people feel more alive, and provide an environment that is nurturing, challenging, and loving.

These two organizations have come together in a combined capital campaign to raise $3.25 million to build facilities that will help each agency carry out its respective mission. This is the first time that a joint fundraising effort has been launched in Lubbock, and community leaders are exciting about the prospects for its success.

* Estimated Costs The number of hearts touched by the Women's Protective Services and the Young Women's Christian Association numbers over 1,000 a day. The lives changed by the love that these two organizations have for their clients and program participants can't be measured in service hours, child-care counts, meals served or laps swam. Rather it can be measured in the quality of life as it changes for each individual after that special encounter with a member of the YWCA or WPS staff and volunteer teams. Once their hearts have been touched, lives have been changed. Your support of the Capital Campaign will enable the WPS and YWCA to continue to "Touch Hearts and Change Lives" for years to come.

Kelly grew up in a family environment where beatings, cigarette burns, and sexual assault from her father were a normal part of each day. As she grew older, she found herself pregnant with her father's child, under educated, lost and alone. She had a miscarriage. As often happens to victims of abuse, Kelly's abuse continued in her marriage. Kelly was desperate. After further abuse, she finally sought help. Women's Protective Services was here to help, and Kelly's life began to turn around. Now a junior in college, Kelly holds down a full-time job. She is no longer tolerant of abusive behavior, and she uses her time off to counsel other victims of spousal abuse. "WPS saved my life."

The family has a daughter who is severely disabled and who had never been cared for by anyone other than her parents or her sister. When the sister left home for college, her parents struggled to keep it all together: work, care for their disabled child's overwhelming special needs, and maintain their own health and sanity. It wasn't working, and divorce became imminent...

Until they heard about the YWCA's special needs program. The YWCA provided loving care for their daughter, enabling the parents to meet other priorities, including spending a few minutes with just each other at the end of the work day.

Divorce is no longer a factor, and the family is now thriving. "We wouldn't be together as a family had it not been for the Lubbock YWCA. They saved us," says the father.

Commemorative Gift Opportunities

To commemorate your unselfish generosity and concern for the people of Lubbock, the Women's Protective Services and Young Women's Christian Association wish to make public and enduring a record of those who have invested generously to make these new facilities possible.

A beautiful "donors wall" will be prominently located in the new YWCA facility. Plaques will be placed at the entrance to the rooms and program facilities at the new Women's Protective Services facilities. These recognitions will serve as a permanent reminder - for generations to come - of your interest and generous support of the women, children and families of our community.

Additionally, certain rooms and program areas of the facilities have been earmarked for memorial purposes. What better way to memorialize yourself, a loved one, your family or company than to reserve a room or program area in the new and renovated facilities.

This list of memorial possibilities is for you to consider. A suitable plaque inscribed according to the wishes of the donor will mark each dedicated memorial.
