A mere one hour drive from Panama City, three miles north of Marianna, sits one of the state's most notable geological areas. The park has 10,000 acres complete with hiking trails, riding stables, campgrounds, and the beginning of the 50 mile Chipoloa River Canoe Trail.

Swimming and fishing is also available. The caverns are a sprawling 10 acres underneath with guided ranger tours. The guided tour is approximately 1/2 mile long through illuminated passageways. If you happen to be a spelunker you can request a more thorough exploration. One of the formations, the Wedding Chapel, is in the shape of a wedding cake, and yes, many wedding ceremonies have taken place there!

Fearing banishment, many Native Americans hid in the caves during the Seminole Wars. This park is a very beautiful place with an interesting historical past. The best times to visit are May through February. While in the area, take time to visit Falling Waters State Park. It's a short drive away and well worth the time.
