Ibi was an official of his cousin Pepi II and was the son of the vizier Djau. He was Governor of the South, which was the term for the later office of Viceroy of Nubia. His family was from Thinis and the queens Ankhnesmery-Re were his aunts. Inscriptions in his tomb promised to pounce on anyone who entered into his chamber with evil intentions. He also told of his skill in magical spells and curses as well as his stature in the Underworld. Ibi's tomb at Deir el-Bebrawi, which is near Assiut, was an inspiration for another Ibi who lived during the 26th Dynasty and was buried at Thebes.
