| Diodorus of
Sicily Ptolemaic Dynasty
Diodorus was a historian from Sicily who marveled at the economy with which the Egyptian peasants raised their children by feeding them with boiled vegetables which were in ready and cheap supply. He pointed out that as you moved up the economy, you could see that there was more variety, in the consumption of meat, fish, cheese, milk, wine , beer and a range of vegetables. He also records that he personally witnessed an unfortunate number of a Roman embassy lynched in Alexandria by an angry mob after having killed a cat by accident. Shop
