| Callixeinos of
Rhodes Ptolemaic Dynasty
Callixeinos of Rhodes was an author who described the great procession of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, saying that a cult of Dionysus is the focal point and the floats exhibited extrabagant scenarios of the god and his cult-followers, the grape harvest, and enormous golden phallus fifty meters long with a gold star three metres in circumference at the end, to emphasise the priapic aspect of his worship. |
