| Antiochus of
Askalon Ptolemaic Dynasty
Antiochus was one of the most influential philosophers from Athens, who eventually settled in Alexandria, and whose pupil Dion died in Rome where he was participating in an ambassadorial visit by a hundred leading Alexandrians to protest against the re-instatement of Ptolemy XII Auletes. Another of his pupils was Arius Didymus, a close friend of Octavian at Rome, and it was partly because of his influence that Alexandria was spared from destruction. Shop
