| The Kamilya Medersa Most of the original Kamilya Medersa is gone, except for the monumental entrance and the
west liwan, having been replaced by more modern buildings. However, this medersa built by
Sultan el-Kamil in 1225 is the second largest in the world after that of Zinki in Damascus.
During the Mameluke period, this structure inspired some of the finest works of Cairene urban
architecture.
