Alexandria: Though he never lived to see its completion, Alexander the Great founded the coastal city of Alexandria in 332 B.C. This second largest city in Egpyt had significant importance both militarily and commercially. The causeway that linked the city to the island of Pharos created two harbors and made Alexandria a major port. Alexandria was the home of the famous Library, and the Pharos Lighthouse, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. |
